If you aren’t ready to have an energy audit, there are a lot of small DIY projects you might consider to tighten the house, bit by bit. Below are our top three recommendations for buttoning up your home in time for cold weather. If you aren’t inclined to do these yourself, perhaps a family member or friend could help, or a local handyman service.
Reverse and save
This one takes about three seconds. If you haven’t done it yet, get a step ladder and reverse the direction of any ceiling fans in your home. Make sure the blades run clockwise in cold weather to circulate warm air that rises toward the ceiling back down to where you need it.
Heat the living space, not the attic

Don’t let the cold in
