Get Paid to Support Maine’s Electric Grid: Join the Maine Transactive Energy Pilot!
Hi EcoHome friends,
We’ve got some exciting news for York homeowners who’ve invested in energy-efficient technologies like heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, electric vehicles (EVs), and home battery storage. There’s a new opportunity to put that smart tech to work—not just for your household, but for the greater good of Maine’s electric grid—and get rewarded for it!
Why Now?
Maine’s electric grid is under increasing pressure, especially during extreme heat or cold when energy demand spikes. When demand outpaces supply, it can lead to higher electricity costs and even drive the need for costly new power plants and transmission infrastructure. That’s not great for your wallet—or the planet.
Enter the Maine Transactive Energy Pilot (MTEP)
MTEP is a two-year pilot program designed to explore a smarter, more flexible way to use electricity. It invites homeowners and small businesses with energy-efficient devices to make small, voluntary adjustments to their electricity use when the grid is under stress—and earn money for doing so.
This innovative program is about more than saving money—it’s about pioneering a cleaner, more efficient energy future for Maine.
How It Works
-
Enroll online (link provided below) and get connected with a representative who will guide you through the process.
-
You stay in control. Decide how flexible you want your devices to be—low, medium, or high. For example, your heat pump could shift the temperature slightly during high-demand hours, depending on your selected comfort level.
-
Manage it all from your phone. You can pause, adjust, or opt out of changes anytime via a user-friendly mobile app.
What You’ll Get
-
💸 $200 just for signing up
-
💸 $100 each year you participate
-
💸 Additional incentives based on your devices and flexibility
-
📱 Full control through a simple app
Learn More at Our Upcoming Info Session
Join us on Thursday, June 26, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the York Public Library Community Room (or join via Zoom—email [email protected] to RSVP for the virtual session).
You’ll hear from Seth Hoedl of the Post Road Foundation, who will explain how technologies like heat pumps and EVs can ease strain on the grid and cut pollution. “MTEP will demonstrate how building loads can help manage this stress to lower energy costs, reduce pollution, and support Maine’s electric grid,” he says.
This event is presented by York Ready for Climate Action, in collaboration with A Climate to Thrive and the Post Road Foundation.
Don’t miss your chance to be a part of Maine’s clean energy future—and get paid for your contribution!
